Northern Illinois unveils its new basketball floor (PHOTO)

On Tuesday night, the Northern Illinois athletic department tweeted out this photo of the basketball team’s new floor. Leading up to the official unveiling, NIU had posted portions of the floor, using the hashtag #NIUCourtPuzzle. It appears to be inspired by Central Florida’s design from last summer. The Knights approved the new look:

    Just awful

What a rip-off of UCF’s court. The center thing looks like the eyes of a bird of prey, not a husky. I still do not understand why so many NIU fans think they have a good shot at getting into the Big 12. As long as Texas is in the conference it will stay at 10 schools.

Because of the Big 12 ever expands, they’re going to want a fancy new Big 12 Network and NIU is geographically in a perfect place. Expansion is all about money (ask Rutgers). DeKalb is situated in the Chicago TV market. That’s millions of TV households that cable companies have access too.. That’s a lot of $$$$$ for the Big 12, especially since their TV deal is pretty weak compared to B1G & SEC.

Obviously it’s years down the road, but the new AD is situating the athletic dept and the facilities for a conference jump.

I agree with the above comments. But I wouldn’t worry about it. I have been to several Huskie basketball games the past few years. Only about 500 fans per game, undoubtedly some of them repeat attendees, will ever actually see it

Love the black look.. Not a big fan of the eyes either.

For the first time in decades, there’s some excitement around NIU basketball. Not going dancing quite yet, but Mark Montgomery certainly has them on the right track.
